EDWIN by GPS ready to explore South East Asia & Europe

Global Panorama Showcase’s (GPS) educational initiative for the travel trade ‘EDWIN’ i.e. Educational Destination Workshop – International - launched at the second edition of GPS Ahmedabad last year, is all set to expand its wings in 2018. GPS curated EDWIN to be an educational trip to destinations for the travel trade, after conducting it in Ladakh in 2017 and Bali, Indonesia earlier this year. The programme will now be EDWIN at SEA i.e. South East Asia, EDWIN at Europe besides being held in Ladakh.

EDWIN at SEA, to be held in the first week of September, will be a 10- day educational workshop to be organised in the South East Asia region in association with Penang Convention Bureau and Dream Cruises. Under this educational workshop, registered members will get a firsthand experience of destinations like Penang, Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia and Singapore along with a Dream Cruises product. This educational destination workshop was launched during GPS’s Telangana Tourism Conclave held in Hyderabad late last month.

Following EDWIN at SEA, the second edition of Ladakh educational tour will be organised for the members from September 24 to 30, for which the registrations are already closed. Later in October, EDWIN will move to Europe to organise educational coach tour workshops for members in association with Rail Europe.

Harmandeep Singh Anand, MD, GPS, explaining more about the proposed EDWIN programme for 2018-19 said, “EDWIN is growing in good numbers as the members of travel trade realise the importance of purpose served through it i.e. first-hand experience and education about a destination. We will be organising three to four EDWIN every year. We have finalised South East Asia and Europe for this year while other destinations such as Philippines, Tanzania and Zanzibar, Mauritius, etc., are in the pipeline to host EDWIN in later part of this year and in 2019.”

EDWIN Ladakh, the maiden destination workshop by GPS which took place in October 2017 saw participation from 50 agents representing 18 states and 35 Tier-II cities. The educational trip covered Leh, Nubra Valley and Pangong Tso and was organised in association with Overland Escape and Ravine Trek. The second destination workshop by GPS was organised in Bali, Indonesia in March earlier this year. EDWIN Bali witnessed over 10,000 B2B meetings between 151 tour operators from India and 70 local exhibitors from Bali. Post one-day B2B session, there were destination and property tours which allowed the Indian delegates to experience and familiarise with the offerings present in Bali. For EDWIN Bali, Singapore Airlines was the partner airline, while Triauma Tours & Travels was the partner DMC.

Anand on member registration for EDWIN explained that GPS 10X members are given priority in terms of registration and they are also eligible to discounted rates for the destination workshops compared to non 10X members. “A 10X membership of GPS is an individual membership for those who attend the Global Panorama Showcase across various cities. One can enrol to 10X membership by paying an annual fees of INR 3,500 exclusive of taxes,” he elaborated.

Designed for offering the first-hand experience of a destination, EDWIN comprises majority buyers from the Tier-II and III markets, hosting only one person from each company. The workshop schedule is pre-fixed comprising of one full day dedicated to B2B meetings and thereafter familiarisation tours of the destination.
