Q. How important and effective is the travel
trade in India in promoting Zanzibar’s tourism
A.Zanzibar is an attractive destination for
tourists who favour friendly people, safe
and secure environment, various fascinating
tourism offerings and especially sea tourism,
unique culture and heritage, traditional
cuisines, spices, events and sea sports activities.
UNWTO forecasts that India will account
for 50 million outbound tourists by 2020.
To fully tap this potential market, Zanzibar
Commission for Tourism through the Zanzibar
Tourism Promotion Centre (ZTPC), India has
implemented many promotional activities.
We view active engagement with the travel
trade as a critical success element in advancing
targeted visitor arrivals. ZTPC in India leads
the engagement and education activity with
travel sellers to keep destination Zanzibar top
of mind. Basically, we help to get the product
to the market through our trade events. These
offer a conduit for Zanzibar tourism operators
to educate the Indian travel trade and build
strong relationships. In turn, they also learn the
individual market segment needs and how they
can better serve them.
Q.Are you looking at organising any
workshops for front line staff to familiarise
and train them on Zanzibar?
A.The Zanzibar Commission for Tourism will
continue to implement various promotional
activities in Indian tourism market: welcoming a
number of Indian fam trips, press trips and film
producer delegations. The Zanzibar Commission
for Tourism in collaboration with other tourism
stakeholders is also expected to participate in
trade fairs and hold roadshow and seminars
to promote Zanzibar tourism. Furthermore,
our dedicated trade website provides tailored
information and promotional tools. This site is
currently undergoing a refurbishment to ensure
it provides the best support it can.

allocated for the Indian market? Are you
looking at increasing the budget in the coming
