‘We foresee more growth in Indian visitors with something new for them to experience in Macau’

MGM China Holdings Limited, an investment holding company that owns and operates the MGM Macau, has opened MGM Cotai, the newest property in Macau on February 13, 2018. MGM Cotai, the latest addition to the brand’s portfolio in China is a USD 3.4 billion integrated resort, deemed to redefine the way people experience art and entertainment through innovative technology. Rahul Kaushik, Sr VP, Mlife Experiences & Relationship Marketing, MGM spoke at length to TravelBiz Monitor to decode MGM Resorts’ best-inclass services to its global guests.

QWhat are the salient features of the new MGM property which set it apart from the other premium properties in Macau?
MGM Cotai is a USD 3.4 bn integrated resort unlike any other in Macau. The resort brings first-ofits- kind entertainment experiences through the Spectacle and MGM Theater, Asia’s first dynamic theater with resident shows. It is also home to a unique art collection of over 300 pieces of contemporary art with a theme of bridging the East and West, tradition and technology, which is one of the largest permanent art collections in Macau. It will redefine the way people experience art and entertainment through innovative technology.

It also boasts about 3,000 sq ft of meeting & events space, including the pillar-free ballroom which can accommodate up to 1,000 guests, and the Boardroom and Vista that overlooks the resort’s pool and lush greenery, to cater the high-end MICE segment.

Four world-renowned celebrity chefs will helm the culinary adventures at the resort which has a total of nine new dining concepts serving authentic local and international cuisines. The property boasts menu designed by Michelin two-star award winning Chef Mauro Colagreco at Grill 58; Aji – authentic Nikkei restaurant by Chef Mitsuharu Tsumura, Coast helmed by Chef Graham, Mian Dui Mian – a Chinese restaurant, and Bar Patua – a classic contemporary bar

The retail space at MGM Cotai features especially - curated collection and range of jewelry, haute couture, watches and affordable luxury in cosmetics, etc.

QWhich are the top 5 performing markets for Macau and MGM?
For MGM, Greater China remains our top market with over 10 million visitors in 2017, however, we see growth in other regions in Asia and they are up and coming for MGM. We have already confirmed a few groups from Regional Asia and can foresee this trend increasing as we have new offerings for both first time and return visitors to Macau.

According to the official data provided by Government of Macau, the other top performing market for Macau trailing Mainland China are Taiwan, Republic of Korea, Japan, and the Philippines.

QWhat’s the current market share from India? What are MGM’s plan, marketing strategies and segment focuses like MICE, Weddings, High-end FIT, etc., for India?
India has grown y-o-y for MGM Macau. With the opening of MGM Cotai, we foresee even more growth as there is something new for the Indian visitors to experience in Macau. We have witnessed inquiries continue for 2018 and beyond.

QIn the B2B segment, are there any specific partnerships or GSAs being targeted?
We are working with many agents and online agents who have partnered with us. MGM Macau and the growing portfolio with the addition of MGM Cotai, we have also added some new partners that focus on selling only MGM Cotai.
