‘Travelport will now bring NDC to the existing customer base’

Customer data security has emerged as an imperative and expensive investment for technology companies today, believes Anil Parashar, President & CEO, InterGlobe Technology Quotient. In an interaction with Disha Shah Ghosh, he sheds light on their popular booking tools, customer credit card security compliance and Travelport’s NDC capability.
QAccording to the Global Digital Travel Research 2017 by Travelport, Indians are the biggest users of digital travel assets. In this regard, what kind of investments is InterGlobe making in terms of booking tools?
The continuation and ever evolving trend of digitalisation has created a revolution in the technology sector. In travel technology, we understand the importance of offering real time services and solutions with added-value. As a result, we have redefined our technology to go ahead and support our travel partners in catering to their requirements better in the shortest possible time.

QWith IATA pushing for the launch of NDC, what position and role will a GDS player like Travelport adopt in India?
Travelport was the first travel commerce platform to be granted ‘Aggregator Level One’ certification for its GDS and ‘IT Provider Level Two’ status by IATA in November 2016 and February 2017, respectively. Level 3 is the highest certification IATA awards to companies who can demonstrate the ability to execute full Offer and Order Management.

As a certified aggregator, Travelport will now be able to bring NDC to their existing customer base and broaden the scope to a wider range of airlines which will aide travel agents using Travelport, with broader range of airline options not just in India but across geographies.

QSince air travel on a growth trajectory, data security has emerged as one of the biggest challenges. How is ITQ addressing that?
With fraud and hacking costing the industry an estimated USD 1billion annually and growing, maintaining a set of security standards to combat this criminal activity is critical when dealing with customer credit card information. This is why Payment Card Industry Data Security Standards (PCI DSS) have been developed to ensure secured card payment.

IATA has also issued a resolution stating that any IATA agent that accepts credit card transactions against its own merchant agreement or issues Billing and Settlement Plan (BSP) card transactions will fall under the PCI DSS compliance obligations, and non-adherence to this compliance by March 1, 2018 will result in the issuance of an administrative non-compliance, and could lead to the removal of card as a form of payment for an agency.

ITQ, through Travelport’s partnership with SecurityMetrics, is helping its travel agents to join in the fight against cyber security and protect their businesses and customers’ interest facilitating easy PCI DSS compliance process.

QWhich is the most popular booking tool by Travelport among the trade community in India? How are you educating the agents about it?
Travelport provides a custom made technology platform. Our tools are designed for the targeted businesses as per their requirements and the kind of customers they cater to.
