‘Sun Tours & Travel meets entire tourism demand to islands of Zanzibar’

Ali Abdulrahman, Manager - Sales, Sun Tours & Travel Ltd in an interaction with TravelBiz Monitor talks about the various tour package combinations to be curated to explore Zanzibar and Tanzania.

Q. What are the services and products offered by Sun Tours & Travels?
A. Sun Tours & Travel is an inbound tour operator with broad knowledge of covering the entire tourism demand when it comes to the islands of Zanzibar - accommodation, transfers, excursion, domestic and international flights. By coordinating with our partners we could organise the remarkable safari experience within Tanzania mainland, Kenya and Uganda.

Q. How do you view the Indian market?
A. Experience shows there are many Indians travelling to Zanzibar like the last time we spent a night with Hideaway in October, 20% of the occupancy was enjoyed by Indians.

Q. What is the minimum number of nights required to explore Tanzania and Zanzibar?
A. In order to combine safari experience and beach relaxation, one requires spending at least 4 nights for safaris on the northern Tanzania, Manyara, Ngorongoro and Serengeti. If one has time on hand, additional nights could be extended to Tarangire. The average number of nights for a safari is six. 2 to 4-night Zanzibar stay after safari is a good experience.

Q. How best can one explore Tanzania and Zanzibar?
A. There are two motives to travel Tanzania, those want to experience more of the islands and like to use the opportunity of a short period safari, like we have Selous & Mikumi where a 2-3 night safari is possible. For those who prefer safaris, we suggest northern Tanzania and spending less number of nights with Zanzibar. Internal flights add a higher markup to the packages if there is no proper travel programme. The convenient airports are Kilimanjaro and Zanzibar. Airlines that operate flights to both airports like Ethiopian, Qatar and Turkish, one can book landing at Kilimanjaro and departure from Zanzibar. With this option, there will be only one domestic flight in use Arusha– Zanzibar, which would cost about USD 210 per person. Otherwise the domestic flight cost will tend to be higher than the international one, which will make accessibility to the destination cost higher that the package itself.

Q. Do you collaborate with trade partners in India?
A. We have one partner in India and the new one—Indiana Travel Services looks potential.

Q. What are the tourist offerings of Zanzibar and Tanzania that would interest travellers from India?
A. Apart of safari experiences in mainland, Zanzibar abounds in wildlife. There are many islands within the Indian Ocean, which are easy accessible and affordable for Indians. That stands as a challenge if we will promote Zanzibar as an island within the Indian Ocean. Therefore, we should focus on the strategy of promoting other aspects of Zanzibar in spite of being an island.
