Travel 2.0

disha Just over a decade ago, when TravelBiz Monitor was at its embryonic stage was also the time when the travel & tourism, aviation and hospitality sectors were witnessing a never-seen-before influx of technology. We saw it unfolding steadily into the biggest disruptive force over the years. The impact of technology was such that it even took the seasoned players by surprise, and this publication has been eye-witness to all those transformations from close quarters. At the risk of sounding immodest, we were the first travel trade publication in this country to offer an online news portal with daily updates on developments with a vision of how technology would determine the future. Today, we have reached a point where technology has become an overarching phenomenon, and in fact, after 11 years of being the voice of this industry through our print and online platforms, we are now on the cusp of launching our digital publication – Corporate Traveller - to offer a reading experience with a virtual tour of the travel world. This is besides the host of innovations which we have introduced within the digital and technology space in the travel media domain, being first movers in online training programmes, webinars and other digital marketing tools.

The impact of technology besides being crucial in operations is also imperative for the customer interface. This is evident from the kind of investment businesses are undertaking to offer experiences that are more and more personalised, and therefore this issue will take you on a journey of technology and its implications and what we can expect in the future. Moreover, while on one hand when the impact of technology is profound, the world is also staring at geopolitical volatility because of political instability, terrorism, unrest and diplomatic sanctions. In such a scenario, we decided to offer a perspective on the future of the industry in this changing world order through the eyes of the industry experts. We believe this issue will give all our readers an opportunity to take a step back and analyse how the industry is expected to unfold.

I firmly believe that despite the untoward incidents that we have witnessed in the past couple of years, in India and globally, the travel & tourism, aviation and hospitality sectors will continue to connect the world audience. While technology will evolve in its role as an enabler, one will have to put processes and compliance mechanisms in place to protect customer data, especially at a time when negative forces are at play. We as an industry need to brace ourselves for these new changes and challenges that are inevitable. Welcome to Travel 2.0…
