Another Milestone

It was just about a decade ago when TravelBiz Monitor took shape with the promise of being the voice of India’s travel, tourism, aviation and hospitality sectors. As I look back over the last decade, I am not going to be pompous enough to say we have achieved all that and became the singular voice of the industry, but I certainly hope that we have fulfilled the promise of staying on top of all the new developments, trends and transformation that this industry has been through collectively. And a transformation it has been!

If we had stuck by our promises in totality, we would have missed being at the heart of a lot of other segments that became an integral part of this industry… some of which hardly existed when TravelBiz Monitor was born. The transformation which started around the year 2005 and accelerated into the economic depression of 2008-10 has not only transformed the way this industry functions, but has also transformed the very nuances of this sector and the way a publication like ours would look at it. As we have traced the ever-changing face of the various segments and verticals, our very own business model, our reporting and our services offered have also undergone a metamorphosis along with the industry. I dare say, there has never been such an interesting or challenging time to launch an industry publication, and I have personally enjoyed every bit of this roller-coaster journey. The industry that I look upon today has almost no resemblance to the industry in which we launched TravelBiz Monitor, the first and flagship publication of our group of publications and online portal/services.

Today, on our 10th anniversary, it gives us a chance to reflect over the last decade and bring to the industry what is in effect, a wrap up of the last 10 years in Indian tourism. This 10th anniversary issue is not merely another milestone for us, it is also an effort to bring some perspective into how the industry has grown, transformed and actually moved into another dimension altogether. As we present the Top 10 milestones within this issue, we hope to be able to build a story of this industry over the decade which will provide a platform for anybody within or outside this country who is a stakeholder or prospective aspirant in tourism to substantially evaluate the future potential. Yes, there will be many more milestones both for Indian tourism and for TravelBiz Monitor… and hopefully we will be around for a long long time to celebrate all these milestones together.
