Site India Chapter to host welcome reception at Site Global Conference 2019 in Bangkok next month

The India Chapter of Site, the global association of incentive travel operators, will be hosting the welcome reception at the forthcoming Site Global Conference 2019 at Bangkok, Thailand, scheduled between January 11 and 14.  India will also have the highest participation ever in the Site Global conference being the winner of the “Chapter Challenge”.  This was informed by Anup Nair, President of Site India Chapter, while talking to TravelBiz Monitor during a Knowledge Forum organised in Delhi.  12 Incentive operators from India will attend the global conference, which according to Nair is higher than the Chinese participation at the conference.

“As a sponsor of the welcome reception, we will get opportunity to showcase India throughout the reception. A video about India will be running throughout. We will make sure India stands out at the event,” he said. Incentive travel professionals from across the globe are expected at the global conference, where Site will also be unveiling an ‘Incentive Travel Manifesto’.

When asked about the current status of India on the global incentive travel map, Nair said that although India holds immense potential to entice incentive groups, the numbers are still very low.  “There are too many issues to deal with here,” he said. However, he said that unlike outbound incentive from India, the inbound incentive business in India has players who try to offer quality experiences to clients without indulging in “under-cutting.”

He cautioned outbound incentive operators against indulging in “under-cutting of rates”.  “Business results do not come by under-cutting and lower pricing. Business results come by offering quality experience.  When the whole world is begging for Indian business, we should leverage our strength.  That is what Site tries to educate the outbound incentive operators through our educational platforms,” Nair added.

Nitin Sachdeva, Vice President, Young Leader Program, Site India led the Knowledge sessions at the Forum which was attended from the corporate side Vikas Khoka, Director-HR, Zimmer India and Ajay Kapoor, VP – Procurement, Canara HSBC. There was also an interesting one-on-one talk with Naveen Kundu, MD of Mercury Travels, who spent almost three decades in the incentive business.  Kundu urged the incentive industry to look out of the box and do crazy things.  He shared his own experience of blocking the traffic on a main pathway close to Eiffel Tower to hold a party for an incentive group. “Incentive travel is all about crazy stuff. You have to think crazy and learn to execute them.”
