IATO demands reduction in visa fee for foreign nationals to make India a lucrative destination

India Association of Tour Operators (IATO), the national body of Inbound Tour Operators has demanded immediate reduction of visa fee for tourists from the current over USD 100 dollars to USD 25 to make India a lucrative travel destination.

IATO also demanded not to hike the fee until India reaches the targeted 20 million foreign tourist arrivals. This was informed by Pronab Sarkar, President, IATO while sharing the gist representation submitted by the association to visa fee .

He said that there should be complete waiver of visa fee during the peak April to September period. He said that the association has cited the examples and good tourist arrival results achieved by countries like Thailand and Indonesia to the inistries of home and tourism.

He said that IATO felt that keeping the visa fee high and GST as high as 28%, India would not be able to achieve the target of 20 million.

IATO also recommended etourist visa applications to be made available in more foreign languages including Chinese, French, German, etc, also more options in terms of payment gateways.

The association, he said, also recommended reciprocal approach when it comes to visa on arrivals. While many countries offer VoA to Indians, India offer VoA only to Japanese and South Korean citizens.
