United to start Delhi-San Francisco seasonal flight from December next year

According to a report by Saurabh Sinha in The Times of India,US mega-carrier United will introduce a “daily nonstop seasonal service” between Delhi and its west coast hub of San Francisco (SFO) from December 7 next year. Another US carrier Delta had earlier announced it will resume flights to India in 2019 after several years. And Air India is looking at adding frequencies on its existing American sectors as well as adding cities like Los Angeles to its network.

At the moment, AI and United are the only two airlines with direct flights between the two countries. AI had started Delhi-SFO direct as thrice a week in winter 2015. The demand for direct travel between the west coast and India is such that in just over two years its popularity led to AI increasing frequency of the only direct flight between India and the west coast to nine times a week. United currently has a daily direct between its east coast hub of Newark and Delhi and Mumbai. The seasonal SFO flight will be its third daily nonstop to India. Air India has 36 nonstops a week between India and US — a daily each on Delhi-New York JFK, Delhi-Chicago and Mumbai-EWR.
