Domestic air passenger traffic up 3.15% in July

According to a report by The Hindu Business Line, domestic airlines flew 1.19 crore passengers in July this year registering a 3.15 per cent growth over the 1.15 crore passengers flown during the same period previous year. Data released by the aviation regulator Directorate General of Civil Aviation show that IndiGo retained the No.1 position in terms of number of passengers carried with 56.93 lakh, while SpiceJet came second flying 18.48 lakh passengers. GoAir flew 13.26 lakh passengers.

AirAsia carried 7.71 lakh passengers in July this year, while Vistara flew 7.15 lakh passengers.

SpiceJet reported the highest Passenger Load Factor (PLF) of 92.4 per cent among the domestic airlines in July followed by Go Air (90.4 per cent), Air Asia (89.5 per cent) IndiGo (89.5 per cent), and Vistara (82.4 per cent).

The passenger load factor shows how many of the total seats on offer by each airline are getting filled.

GoAir reported the best on-time performance (OTP) at 80.5 per cent followed by AirAsia (77.7 per cent) and IndiGo (74.4 per cent) at the four metro airports in Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Bengaluru.

The industry paid over INR 4.35 crore including INR 2.03 crore to the over 2.55 lakh passengers affected by delays. In addition, the industry paid over INR1.21 crore to over 48,000 passengers affected by cancellations of flights.

Air India topped the list of passenger grievances with 2.1 complaints per 10,000 passengers in July, while SpiceJet was on number two position with 0.8 complaints per 10,000 passengers, according to the DGCA data.
