BirdApps to push ‘Odigos’ on-demand tour guide booking app vigorously into the market

To take the number of guides from the current 500 to 2,000 by year end
BirdApps, the ventures and innovation lab by Bird Group, will be pushing and promoting their application-based market place for tour guides and experiences product into the market more vigorously this year after its successful beta release last year. As part of making the product offerings more exhaustive, they will be enlisting more tour guides into the platform this year. Currently, they have around 500 tour guides, 2,000 itineraries listed spread over 100 cities are available for booking on ‘Odigos’.

According to Himanshu Kumar, Business Head, BirdApps, plan is to increase the number of registered tour guides whose services can be hired to 2,000 by the end of this year. Lot of harassment that tourists face at monuments and destinations can be overcome by using these online services in advance, he said. Travel agents, hotels, etc. can also ensure that tour guides are booked in advance.

“It’s an on-demand app just like an Uber platform. One can download the app and book services whenever needed.  Our focus now is on building the content lot more and partnerships with B2B business and work with travel agents and tour operators to help them service their customers better,” he said.

BirdApps has also signed a MoU with Ministry of Tourism to offer Audio guide (Audio Odigos) services at 14 select monuments in the country under the Adopt a Heritage scheme.  Bird Group will provide this pp-based service for free to visitors to these sites as part of the CSR. Kumar said that content for these monuments will be developed over the next one year. The Audio guide services will be provided in Japanese, Korean, Hindi, English and various vernacular languages of India.

Odigos is a product of BirdApps which is the ‘Ventures and Innovation Lab’ at Bird Group (www.birdapps.in), a business conglomerate with multiple verticals in travel IT, hospitality, aviation services, retail and dducation.

“We are currently live in more than 100 cities, offering over 2,000 packages with 500 Ministry of Tourism-certified and local guides. Our services aim to positively impact the experience of the tourists/locals and create additional sources of revenue for our partners. As an extension of Odigos, we are working with the Ministry of Tourism on a free audio guide app called Audio Odigos,” Kumar said.
