Shri Subhash Chandra presents White Paper on Cruise Tourism to Union Shipping Minister

INCLA organises the first-ever Global Cruise Conclave in association with TravelBiz Monitor
At the ‘Global Cruise Conclave’, organised by India Cruise Lines Association (INCLA) in association with TravelBiz Monitor, Shri Subhash Chandra, Chairman, Essel Group as the chief guest of the INCLA at the Conclave, presented the White Paper on Cruise Tourism to Nitin Gadkari, Minister for Road Transport & Highways, Shipping and Water Resources, River Development & Ganga Rejuvenation, Government of India, at Grand Hyatt, Mumbai. Gadkari was the guest of honour at ‘Global Cruise Conclave’ which was organised today at Grand Hyatt, Mumbai.

White Paper presented to Gadkari suggests necessary reforms in policy, tax and various regulatory laws, which are required to ensure a level playing field for cruise business in India compared to cruise operators based abroad and attract investors/cruise liners and other stakeholders to set-up cruise operations in India.

Gadkari at the Conclave stated that India has a lot of potential in the cruise tourism sector and is well poised to grow. “Personally, I am not happy with the growth that cruise sector in India has witnessed in the past three to four years. Comparatively, road sector has been growing rapidly. The government is ready to invest in this sector for it to prosper as it carries a lot of potential. Not only the seas, but also the river length."

Gadkari highlighted the achievements of government’s latest work plans in the cruise tourism sector under which around 25 lakh job opportunities have been created so far.

The ‘Global Cruise Conclave’ saw a panel discussion on ‘Is domestic and International Cruise Tourism a viable option for origination from India’ moderated by Sheldon Santwan, Editor & COO, TravelBiz Monitor. Jurgen Bailom, Convener, INCLA and President & CEO, Zen Tourism & Cruises Private Limited, Mark Robinson, Chief Commercial Officer of Global Ports, Philippe Faucher, Vice President, Global Business Development/European Operations, The Apollo Group, Sanjay Bhatia, Chairman, Bombay Port Trust & Chairman, Indian Ports Association, Hemal Zobalia, Partner, Deloitte Haskins & Sells LLP and Nalini Gupta, India Representative, GSA of Costa Cruises were the panelists for the discussion. 

INCLA is the first-ever association of the cruise industry in India bringing together all the people who matter in the cruise segment to create a comprehensive agenda to develop India into a cruise hub of the future.
