PATA India’s ‘Tourism Powerhouse 2018’ initiative to be held in New Delhi this August

The Pacific Asia Travel Association India Chapter will be organising its inaugural ‘Tourism Powerhouse’ meeting in New Delhi this year which will be headed by the association’s CEO, Mario Hardy. Scheduled to be held on August 5 and 6 at The Park, New Delhi, Tourism Powerhouse 2018 will feature interactive sessions for PATA India members on the tourism industry-related subjects. The unveiling of the logo for Tourism Powerhouse 2018 was done today at the hands of Rashmi Verma, Secretary – Tourism, Government of India and Chairperson, PATA India Chapter at the 7th Update & Outlook Meeting hosted by PATA India Chapter & Ministry of Tourism (MoT), Government of India at The Claridges, New Delhi.

There will be seven interactive sessions conducted during the two-day initiative by PATA India. Elaborating more on the Tourism Powerhouse, Runeep Sangha, Executive Director, PATA India Chapter, said, “A variety of topics which concern the industry both in terms of growth and enablers shall be the focus areas of discussion during the Powerhouse sessions. Sections like luxury travel and increase in young travellers in the last decade will be some of the important agendas which will be discussed at length during the two-day affair.”

Sangha informed that Hardy and Verma, both will be conducting sessions during the event. Hardy’s session will deliberate on ‘Impact of digital economy’, while Verma’s session will discuss ‘How to better harness tourism opportunities in India’.

At the 7th Update & Outlook Meeting, along with Verma and Sangha, Suman Billa, Joint Secretary – Tourism, Government of India, M.P. Mall, CMD, Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) and J.S. Taneja, Hon. Secretary, PATA India Chapter, were present along with other Executive Members of the association’s India Chapter.

Verma and Billa shared insights with the members present at the meeting on the performance of India Tourism in the recent past, and highlighted how the tourism industry in India is growing at an extensive pace. Members discussed with the both the representatives from MoT on the industry concerns which needed resolutions such as maintenance of iconic and heritage sites, improvement in tourism infrastructure across the country, etc.
