MP Vandana Chavan raises ETAA's views in the Rajya Sabha

Vandana Chavan, Member of Parliament (MP), Rajya Sabha, has raised the plight of the travel & tourism industry adversely impacted due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Chavan read out the issues in the Rajya Sabha which ETAA (Enterprising Travel Agent Association) submitted to her recently.

Describing the current situation of the industry as grave, she urged the government to pay heed. Some of the important issues she mentioned in her speech are-deferring the TCS (Tax Collection at Source) for three years, GST holiday for 12 months, international OTAs has to be registered in India and making them liable to pay taxes for ensuring level-playing, standardising RT-PCR test, and seeking bailout package for the industry.

During her speech, she also mentioned about the threat calls the travel agents had received for refunds. "Even their offices were ransacked," Chavan said.

Expressing gratitude to Chavan, Jagat Mehta, President, ETAA, said, "We are thankful to her for raising our industry's issue in the Upper House. Hopefully, it will be noticed by the government. Travel agents play a very important role in the business; unfortunately, they are always being ignored."
