IATO to urge states to start promotional activities

As a confidence-building measure, the Indian Association of Tour Operators (IATO) will urge state governments to start their own promotional activities.

Speaking at a webinar organised by ASSOCHAM ‘International Tourism: India The Destination’, Pronab Sarkar, President, IATO, said, “We are soon going to request state governments to start marketing their destinations to Indian nationals for building confidence as well as do-away with any requirement for quarantine. Once tourists gain confidence to travel, it will help us position India internationally, for effective resumption of inbound.”

Sarkar cited the example of Uttarakhand which has seen an encouraging spurt in tourists for adventure as well as leisure, especially by road journeys. “We are seeing a large number of tourists, especially driving down from North India to Uttarakhand. There is need for pro-active measures from states to service this growing demand for travel.”

Moreover, the IATO President suggested that the government should announce dates for opening of tourist season for inbound at least two months in advance for operators to begin marketing activities and necessary visa procedure.
